Brad Hogg makes a surprise choice of Indian number 3 to replace Pujara

The heat is on Cheteshwar Pujara after his poor returns in the last 5 tests. After his heroic stonewalling knocks in Australia, the Indian number 3 is woefully short of runs in tests thereafter and again struggled in the WTC final. The biggest issue is Pujara’s inability to make the scoreboard moving during his ultra-defensive mode of batting which of late instead of giving India a strong platform is creating more pressure in the middle order.

Various experts have been giving their views and naming their possible candidates at 3 like KL Rahul or Vihari. There is also suggestions of Kohli batting at 3. Brad Hogg makes a surprise choice of Indian number 3 to replace Pujara.

Former Australian chinaman spinner Brad Hogg, who is very active on social media has come up with an interesting choice for Indian number 3 . He mentioned the name of Prithvi Shaw as the long term successor for Pujara at that spot. The reasons mentioned are that Prithvi is more suited at number 3. Than opening and has a very long future with a lot of talent.

Hogg was answering this to a query by a fan on Twitter as under

It is an interesting choice by Hogg to name Shaw. However, Shaw has had his struggles while opening in Australia as the Aussie quicks exposed his fragility to the incoming ball as a result of which he was dropped after 1 test. Since then, however, he has scored tonnes of runs in domestic cricket and is in the second string. Indian squad for the Srilankan white-ball tour currently.

Will Shaw flourish at number 3 in tests ? It will probably be a long wait for that to happen as first he needs to get back into the test cricket fold which may not happen too soon.
