Sam Billings, England’s wicket-keeper and batsman feels that playing the five-match T20 series against India would be a good practice for T20 World Cup. England is on its tour to India and after playing the Test series, the teams are up for a T20 series too. Sam Billings, hopeful of preparation before the big game also feels that the competition in his team, Delhi Capitals is fiercely tough. Billings was bought by Delhi Capitals last month in the mini-auction and feels that the team has great options for the World Cup.

Billings appreciated the Delhi Capitals squad and said that the team has great options, especially, in the overseas players. Capable players have given the team strength to go for any combinations. Billings said, “You could go with any combination and it would be successful.”

“THE COMPETITION FOR PLACES IS PHENOMENAL”

Billings feels that he might get less game time but that is not what matters. Preparation for the competition is the most important. He said, “The competition for places is phenomenal… but it comes back to the point of preparing for a World Cup and giving myself the best chance in these conditions to prepare for that.”

Delhi Capitals finished the last season as runners up and this year have amazing options, especially in the overseas department. Last year their ultimate go-to combination was Kagiso Rabada and Anrich Nortje and this was not it. Delhi Capitals had another batting duo, Marcus Stoinis and Shimron Hetmyer.

This year also they have a star-studded team. The new additions to the team are Australian skipper, Steve Smith and England’s Tom Curran and Sam Billings.

RECALLS MEETING RISHABH PANT

Sam Billings recalls his time when he was first added to Delhi Capitals in 2016 and 2017. That was the time when he first witnessed the Indian wicket-keeper, Rishabh Pant. He recalls going up to Rahul Dravid and asking, “Who’s this kid?”. He said, “He was smacking Nathan Coulter-Nile, Chris Morris, Rabada, everywhere in the open net.” He said that it was great to see him flourish in the team and see him where he is today.

OPPORTUNITY TO LEARN

Billings also is eager to team up with Ravichandran Ashwin and Axar Patel. Looking at their great records in the just concluded England vs India Test series, Billings is excited about playing with them. “Facing those two spinners in the nets is one of the great things about the IPL”. Billings feels that it is impossible to face these amazing players day in and day out and not get better at the game and this is what he is looking for. He said, “That’s a huge plus point…I’ll be writing a few notes about a few different cricketers that I see about.”
