BCCI keeps Hyderabad as contingency venue as 8 Wankhede ground staff & Axar Patel tests positive

IPL preparations suffered a major hit when eight Wankhede groundstaff members tested positive for the Corona virus.

In another major development Axar Patel of Delhi Capitals , who are now based in Mumbai for their initial IPL matches has reported covid positive and is following all isolation protocols.

Maharashtra reported 47,827 new COVID-19 cases and 202 deaths on Friday with Mumbai registering the highest-ever single day spike of 8,832 new cases. It was the second day in a row that Mumbai recorded more than 8,500 cases.

Wankhede is set to host 10 IPL games this season from April 10-25. The first match at the Mumbai stadium is slated to be played on April 10 between Delhi Capitals and Chennai Super Kings.

With covid situation in Mumbai assuming critical proportions BCCI has kept Hyderabad in their contingency plans and a likelihood of shift of venue is not entirely ruled out .
