The BCCI in a Special General Meeting held on 28th May 2021 has finalised that phase 2 of the IPL 2021( remaining 31 matches ) which was aborted in India due to covid spread within the Bio bubble will now be held at UAE.

Tentatively the dates are around 19th September to October 10. However, BCCI has not yet finalised the dates as yet as they will be in negotiations with the West Indies Cricket Board to prepone the dates of the Caribbean Premier League which is supposed to end on 19th September. This is due to the covid related quarantine protocols in the UAE. BCCI wants to ensure that the players in the CPL who are a part of IPL, get their quarantine done in time to play in maximum number of IPL games.

On the other hand, BCCI will not be requesting the other boards to release their players for the IPL in view of their respective future tour programmes and will adopt a wait and watch policy with regards to the availability of overseas players.

It may be noted that ECB director Ashley Giles had already made their stand clear that they will not be releasing any of their team England players for the IPL due to prior tour programmes and preparations for T20I World cup.
