Bangladesh wins 1st ever bilateral series vs Australia in 3rd T20I

A huge day in Bangladesh cricket !!

The Bengal Tigers have beaten the Aussies for the first time in any bilateral series between the 2 countries. They have taken an unassailable 3-0 lead in the 5 match T20I series vs Australia and also beating them in 3 back to back games . Normally these two nations hardly face each other frequently. And Bangladesh blew a big chance of a Test series win at home vs the Aussies in 2017. When they could not hold on to a 1-0 lead. Finally, the moment of glory has come in the 3rd T20I.

On another sluggish pitch with balls gripping, the hosts batted first after winning the toss. Found it tough to get going with wickets falling at regular intervals. Finally the captain Mahmudullah came good with a classy 52 supported by Shakib (26) & new find Afif Hossein (19) as Bangladesh struggled to reach 127/9 in 20 overs. The biggest highlight of that Bangladesh innings was a hattrick by debutant fast bowler Nathan Ellis. The Hobart Hurricanes player first had Mahmudullah bowled followed by the wickets of Mehedi Hasan and Mustafizur in the 19th over to finish with 3/34.  Hazlewood (2/16) and Zampa (2/24) were efficient as usual. Bangladesh wins 1st ever bilateral series vs Australia in 3rd T20I.

In reply, Australia progressed well in spite of losing Wade (1) early. Ben McDermott (35) and Mitch Marsh batted with determination and lots of application as Australia looked poised to square the series with the match in control.

However, after the 63 run stand and McDermott’s dismissal. The Bangladesh spinners turned the screws and runs were hard to come by. Moses Henriques (2) went cheaply and Marsh (51) after another good score failed at the crucial moment which turned the game. Carey (20no off 15 balls) tried a few hits but the hosts gave nothing away.

Mustafizur was the hero as he bowled an outstanding 19th over with 23 to get. He gave only 1 run in a fantastic effort and finally Mehedi closed it out in the last over as 21 was too much for the Aussies on this track. And they lost inexplicably even after having 6 wickets in hand !!

Bangladesh won by 10 runs and Mahmudullah was the man of the match .

Bangladesh  127/9  , Australia 117/4
