Bangladesh beats Australia for the 1st ever time in T20I
Bangladesh cricketers created history by beating Australia for the first time in a T20I. On a spinning deck at Dhaka, the host beat the Aussies by 23 runs in a low scoring match.
Put in to bat first Bangladesh scratched around to score a below par 131/7 in 20 overs . They never had a partnership of substance as few of their batters got out after getting well set. For the hosts, Shakib (36), Naim (30) and skipper Mahmudullah (20) held the innings together. Later Atif Hossain (23 of 17) showed some promise. Hazlewood (3/24) provided early breakthroughs while Starc (2/33) got wickets at the death. Bangladesh beats Australia for the 1st ever time in T20I, leads 1-0 in series.
In reply, the Aussies were rattled by early wickets as the hosts spinners held sway. Wade (13) and Mitchel Marsh tried to repair the damage from a precarious 11/3 but wickets kept falling . Mitch Marsh (45) valiantly played a lone hand as Australia finally declined to 108 all out in 20 overs. The Bangladesh spinners were outstanding. Seamer Mustafizur (1/16) and senior bowlers Shakib (1/24) & Mehdi (1/22) bowled with skills & flair. However it was little known left arm spinner Nasum Ahmed who proved to be the hero with 4/19 and had the visitors totally out of sorts with his man of the match performance .
The surprise element was when Mathew Wade decided to send the opposition into bat on winning the toss. The Aussies have always found it hard negotiating spin particularly batting 2nd as seen in the West Indies, and hence to chase on these kind of pitches was a very tough preposition for them.
