New Delhi: Delhi Capitals all-rounder Axar Patel has tested positive for COVID-19. IPL franchise confirmed this by issuing a statement on Saturday. After being found Corona positive, Axar is no longer possible to play in the first match of the 14th season of the IPL for the Delhi Catipals.
According to the statement of Delhi Capitals, “all-rounder Axar Patel has tested positive for COVID-19. He had checked into the team hotel in Mumbai on March 28, 2021, with a negative report. His report from the second COVID test, came positive. He is currently in isolation at a designated medical care facility. The Delhi Capitals medical team is in constant touch with Axar and ensuring his safety and well-being. We wish him a speedy recovery.”
As per the covid-19 protocol recovery implemented by the BCCI, Axar will now be away from the field for 10 days and this means that he cannot play against Chennai Super Kings at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai on 10 April.
According to the Standard Operating Procedure (SOP), the BCCI has mandated a 10-day quarantine period and cardiac screening for players, officials and staff found to be Corona positive. Players, officials and staff found corona positive isolate themselves by staying out of the Bio Secure bubble and during this time they are not involved in any kind of physical activity. On the ninth and 10th day, if their RT-PCR test is negative, then only they can return to the bubble. Axar’s 10-day isolation period ends on April 12 and Delhi Capitals are scheduled to play their second match against Rajasthan Royals on April 15. The 27-year-old Axar had scored 117 runs in 15 matches for Delhi Capitals in addition to nine wickets in the last season.
