Australia win a low scoring thriller in 1st T20I vs West Indies , Finch shines with 58

After their Indian tour , Australia are playing a short 2 match T20I series vs touring West Indies as a part of world cup preparations . West Indies has reached Australia early to play in the qualifiers . Australia won the toss and bowled first in the 1st T20I at Gold coast.  

Batting first West Indies started brightly through Kyle Mayers but the Aussie quicks kept getting wickets at regular intervals with the big three – Starc , Cummins and Hazlewood in particular keeping the tourists generally in control .  Mayers scored a crisp 39 off 36 that included a couple of powerful hits for 6 but the middle order just could not get going with skipper Pooran (2) getting lbw to a full fast ball from Starc . Later Odean Smith hit a lusty 27 off 17 balls to push West Indies to 145 . Hazlewood took 3 wickets while Starc and Cummins got 2 wickets each and Green getting a solitary scalp.

In reply Australia started well in powerplay but lost 3 wickets . Warner (14) & Green (14) effected  their share of big hits but didnt stay long , Marsh (3) went cheaply as Australia reached 57 in powerplay with Finch batting at four looking good .

However poor shots from Maxwell (0) and David (0) brought West Indies back in the game with Aussies at 58/5 . However Finch (58) and Wade forged a good stand to take Australia within touching distance before Finch skied a catch . Cummins followed soon as the match got close with 11 needed of last over .


After Wade hit a four of 1st ball , the tourists dropped two back to back catches in the last over off Cottrel  to allow Australia to escape with a win on the fifth ball with Wade remaining 39 notout and Australia winning by 3 wickets in a tense finish .


Alzarri Joseph with 2/17 in 4 overs was the best bowler for West Indies  and Finch took the man of the match award
