The Pakistan team is all set to face South Africa in the ODI series. The 34-member Pakistan squad will leave for Johannesburg on Friday morning by a chartered flight. This team includes 13 officials and 21 players. Right before the tour, the team had to go through an important change and that is the inclusion of Asif Ali and the removal of Saud Shakeel. Shakeel has been replaced by Asif Ali due to his injury which he received during a practice match.
Asif Ali to replace Saud Shakeel
Saud Shakeel is suffering from a Grade-1 quadriceps tear in his left leg. He got this injury on Wednesday during a 50-over-a-side practice match that was being held in Lahore. Pakistan Cricket Board informed the fans about the same in an official statement.
The Selection committee has replaced Saud Shakeel with Asif Ali after consulting with the team management. Asif Ali was already a part of the T20I team of Pakistan against South Africa and Zimbabwe, so it was not a big deal to include him in the ODI team too.
Shakeel in rehabilitation
On the other hand, Saud Shakeel is also going to be in the playing XI for the Test series against Zimbabwe so he is going to stay back at the National High-Performance Centre to complete his rehabilitation. Management will be waiting for him to get fit during this time so that he can travel to Harare on April 12 along with the other 10 teammates of the Test cricket.
On the South Africa tour, Pakistanis going to play three ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup Super League matches from April 2-7 and four T20I matches from April 10-16. Team Pakistan then depart for Harare to play three T20Is and Two Tests. The team is scheduled to head home on May 12.
