Ravichandran Ashwin thought of giving up Test cricket! The Indian spinner made such a confession on the day of breaking Harbhajan Singh’s record. Ashwin rose to number three in the list of highest wicket takers for India in Tests. He has taken 419 wickets in 60 Tests. Only Kapil Dev (434 wickets) and Anil Kumble (619 wickets) are ahead of him as highest test wicket takers from India .
A video was posted on behalf of the board. It shows Ashwin talking to Shreyas Ayyar. The Indian spinner said, “Honestly, a lot has happened in the last two years. I was skeptical about whether I would play Tests. It’s a time of great turmoil. ”
“I have not played a Test for India since February,” said Ashwin. At that time I was playing the only test. So I didn’t know if I could play anymore. Thank God my life has changed. ” Ashwin played under Delhi Capitals captain Shreyas in the IPL. “Playing for the Delhi Capitals has changed my life,” said the Indian spinner.
“The fact that I am practicing hard is reflecting through these numbers,” said Ashwin, who topped Harbhajan’s record. Trying to enjoy my game. I am not thinking about which number I am skipping. But it’s a great milestone. I saw Harbhajan bowling against Australia in 2001. Little did I know then that I would be an off spinner . I decided to bowl off spin after seeing his bowling. ”
Meanwhile Harbhajan Singh has tweeted a congratulatory message to Ashwin for surpassing his wicket tally in tests as below & Ashwin subsequently thanking him.
