Srilanka is going through one of the worst phases of their cricket history. In recent times they have lost the ODI series vs Bangladesh and then thrashed by England 3-0 & 2-0 in the T20I & ODI series respectively at the UK. It has been mentioned that one of the main reasons for Srilanka’s struggles, is the retirements of some of their superstars in the last 5-6 years and their successors have failed to deliver the goods consistently. The situation had reached such a stage that Srilanka now will have to play the qualifying rounds of the World T20 to get their passport to the tournament proper.

If he indeed makes his retirement official before Srilanka’s home white ball series against India.
