Superb leg-spin bowling by Amit Mishra , well supported by other Delhi bowlers and another fine Dhawan effort helped Delhi to beat the formidable Mumbai Indians by 6 wickets and 5 balls to spare.

Mumbai won the toss and batted first . Inspite of the early loss of D Kock , Rohit and Surya got together to make full use of powerplay with superb strokes . Rohit’s two sixes , one over long-off to Ashwin and one inside out shot beautifully hit off Rabada were standouts .

After a great powerplay and a fine 58 run partnership, Surya (24) after another fluent innings was caught behind trying to glide Avesh Khan and finally, Rohit (44 off 30 balls) fell to a lofted shot straight to long-on off Amit Misha where Smith took a safe catch .

Rohit’s dismissal triggered a big collapse with 4 wickets falling for 8 runs in quick succession as Amit Mishra was the hero , getting Hardik (0) and Pollard (2) rapidly with his guile while Krunal got bowled by Lalit Yadav .

Later Ishan Kishan (26) and Jayant Yadav (23) extended the Mumbai innings to 137/9 with gritty batting .

For Delhi , Amit Mishra was a standout with 4/24, followed by Lalit Yadav (1/17 ) . Marcus Stoinis (1/20) bowled in powerplay

Chasing down a modest score Delhi lost Shaw cheaply but Steve Smith ensured that no wickets are lost early placing the ball in the gaps and rotating the strike with Dhawan . The target to chase was not a big one and therefore Smith can play at his own pace , one where he can play through the innings and rotate strike.

Dhawan did not look as fluent as he did in previous matches but this pitch was a slowish one where one need to play the waiting game . Smith (33 off 29 balls) finally departed lbw to Pollard , after a 53 run stand with Dhawan which laid the foundations of this innings. Just to keep the left-right combination on , Lalit Yadav came ahead of Pant and Hetmyer , and played an impressive knock of 24 showing good temperament . Meanwhile Dhawan (45 off 41 balls) finally departed to a catch by Krunal as he tried to take on Rahul Chahar.

After next man Pant (7) fell cheaply to Bumrah , However Hetmyer (14 notout off 9 balls) ensured in the company of Lalit Yadav with few big hits that Mumbai Indians did not find any way to come back .

For Mumbai Indians , Rahul Chahar (1/29) and Jayant Yadav (1/25) bowled superbly . Boult kept the runs in check but Bumrah had an off day , conceding no balls too.

Thus in the end it appears that Delhi Capitals on their very first appearance on the slow decks in Chennai adapted very well to the conditions .

Mumbai Indians need to look that their middle-order batting as there are a few batters who are not in good form like the Pandyas and Pollard .
