While the suspended Ollie Robinson’s racist tweets against Muslims and Asian women is under investigation by ECB, Dom Bess’ distasteful Instagram post mocking the Indian national anthem has created huge controversy amongst Indian fans. In another insta post, he has also mocked MS Dhoni by posting a picture of MSD choosing from 6 bats with the quote ” How many bats you want Dhoni, stupid ! “

About the Indian national anthem, Bess commented ” one of the funniest national anthems, #ct2013, #India #cricket”.

it was pretty obvious that Dom Bess’ insta comments have created a huge uproar in social media and if ECB chooses to ignore it, it will become a case of double standards as currently, the suspended Ollie Robinson is paying the price for tweets he made 8-9 years ago as a teenager, despite issuing an unconditional public apology.

After the Ollie Robinson incident, few tweets involving Jos Buttler and Eoin Morgan of 2017 was also exposed which were sarcastic in nature against Indians. In those tweets they used the word ” sir” in greeting each other, referring to the Indian way of greeting overseas guests. Even the New Zealander and KKR coach Brendan McCullum took part in those tweet exchanges. These tweets have created a stir amongst the IPL franchises KKR and Rajasthan Royals and they are adopting a wait and watch policy since the English players themselves are unlikely to feature in phase 2 of the IPL.

However, the Dom Bess insta posts were not in good taste. Significantly the English off-spinner also de-activated his Twitter account after he was included in the English squad for the 2nd test vs New Zealand replacing suspended Robinson possibly to avoid further embarrassment.

Thus we need to wait and see whether ECB takes any action against Bess .
