IPL 2021 has gone through lots of troubled waters and still new situations are unfolding as the second phase of the event is closing in. The latest withdrawals of Jonny Bairstow, Chris Woakes and Dawid Malan has led to a lot of controversies, especially whether this was the fallout of India withdrawing from playing the 5th test vs England due to covid scare.
Popular cricket expert Akash Chopra has criticised the latest 3 English withdrawals from the IPL at the eleventh hour. He asserted that these mad withdrawals at the last moment make the franchisees feel cheated as a lot of their team plans are built around their quality overseas recruits.
While acknowledging the difficult times with bio bubbles and quarantines, Chopra advised the English players to keep in mind that the franchisees that bought the players feel betrayed as a lot of strategies are built around such players.
Chopra lamented the mass exodus of English players with Buttler, Archer and Stokes already declaring their unavailability much earlier and now Bairstow, Woakes and Malan suddenly withdrawing .
Chopra said that franchisees have Elephants memory when they sit on the auction table and may not go for the players that have dealt with them in this manner.
With bio-bubbles, injuries and the T20I world cup on the horizon , there has been a lot of player withdrawals across all franchisees. However few franchises have also gone for some quick and timely replacements with talented internationals like Hasaranga, Rutherford , Aiden Markram , Finn Allen , Tim David etc coming on board for the UAE leg of the IPL 2021
