5 Bowlers to look out in the IPL 2021
Indian Premier League is the name that dominates the hearts of the cricket fanatics and doesn’t leave room for any other plans. And this is that time of year when a cricket fan cannot think of anything else except his favorite team winning the match and then the IPL title. This format of cricket rules all the other formats as it is filled with the rush and gratification of watching your team win the match without spending a day. But this does not mean that the competition is not fierce. It seems to be even more cut-throat and deadly.
One more aspect of the game is quick runs which is a necessity. Batsmen seem to dominate the game of the Indian Premier League with their marvelous boundaries and off-the-field sixes. But if you recall, the bowlers too are in the race with their pace, spin, variations, and deceptions. They have the capability to turn the match in the favor of their team as much as a batsman.
Bowlers will own the IPL 2021
IPL 2020 was played in the UAE due to the pandemic and that season was marked by splendid performances by pacers. Bumrah, Boult, Rabada, Nortje topped the charts. IPL is back within 6 months of the previous season and fans are expecting the same or better performances by these talented bowlers. Matches are scheduled to be held at six venues which are Mumbai, Chennai, Ahemdabad, Kolkata, Bengaluru, and New Delhi. Looking at the venue, one can predict that spinners are expected to dominate the game this season but the pacers will hold their game strong.
Let’s see which bowlers are expected to rule the game in this season of the IPL.
Bumrah is a right-arm pacer and he was the highest wicket-taker for the de3fending champions of the last season. If we have a look at his record for the last two years, that player collected 19 and 27 runs respectively. Bumrah is the bowler to go for at the death as his pinpoint accuracy and upfront movement make him the best choice in such a situation. He is considered to be in the league of most dangerous bowlers in the IPL. Bumrah was not a part of the T20I or ODI series against England so the team would expect him to find his rhythm early on in the game. He is coming to the ground after a month-long break.
One more thing that makes Bumrah Lethal is his companion Trent Boult. Boult took 25 wickets in the previous seasons. Jasprit Bumarh has the experience of playing in 92 matches in which he has picked 109 wickets at an economy of 7.41.
Kagiso Rabada is another important name in the world of IPL. He took 30 wickets in the previous season for Delhi Capitals and was largely the reason that DC entered the finale of the IPL 2020. Delhi Capitals has such faith in this splendid bowler that he was retained in the team for the 2019 season even though he had not featured in a single game during the season before that. 2020 had brought Purple Cap for Rabada and the season before that he took 25 wickets and finished as the highest wicket-taker of the team.
It’s not that Rabada is important for the IPL, IPL holds equal importance for the bowler. He left Pakistan-South Africa ODI series in the middle to be a part of IPL 2021. Rabada has played 35 IPL matches in which he has taken 61 wickets. This season also, he is going to play for Delhi Capitals as the team would try to make it to the top this year.
Bhuvneshwar Kumar is the kind of player who can lead the bowling attack of a team effectively and without creating any noise about it. He believes in his work and that is to take wickets. He won the Purple Cap in 2016 taking 23 wickets for Sunrisers Hyderabad. That year the team lifted its first-ever IPL trophy and we need not say that a huge credit goes to Kumar. His swing is deadly and he is counted amongst the most talented bowlers in the world. He is not the quickest but puts together so many skills into his bowling technique that he comes one of the toughest bowlers to play.
Kyle Jamieson hails from New Zealand and had created quite a buzz during the IPL auctions. He had entered the auction at the base price of Rs. 75 lakh but was bought for Rs. 15 crores by Royal Challengers Bangalore. He had started with Test cricket but the player has been exposed to white-ball cricket too in the previous few months. With 6 Tests, 5 ODIs, and 8 T20s in his kitty it would be interesting to watch this player grow during the IPL. Kyle has already collected 55 wickets playing 42 matches. RCB must be waiting for the bowler to make use of his height and bounce.
Chris Morris was bought for Rs. 16.25 crore which made him the most expensive player in the history of the Indian Premier League. Morris was playing for Royal Challengers Bangalore in 2020 and collected 11 wickets while he scored 34 runs in 9 matches. Morris is 34 which means that the franchise needs to manage his workload wisely. Morris has gone through multiple injuries in the past and had to rest due to the same. He had faced many layoffs due to his injuries and recovery. Rajasthan Royals would not want such an important player to be sitting outside the ground and waiting to be recovered due to any reason. Thus, the franchise would take care that he remains perfectly fine during the season.
Morris has been a part of 70 matches and has taken 80 wickets at an economy rate of 7.81.
