3rd T20I : Selection puzzles in both teams

All eyes on the 3rd T20I between India and England after the series is tied  1-1.  The biggest discussions going on amongst the experts and and fans are relating to the Indian team selection for the 3rd game.  With the explosive batting of Ishan Kishan , the Indian selectors are now in a delimma as to how Rohit Sharma , who was rested in 1st two games  can be accommodated in the team.  Shikhar Dhawan , who himself is a very good player in his own right was dropped after a failure in 1st game and young Ishan Kishan took his chance with both hands scoring a spectacular 54 off 32 balls to send all the fans and experts in a frenzy . It’s very tough go rest a player after that kid of innings. On the other hand KL Rahul has struggled to get a run in the series and looks in danger to be replaced by Rohit Sharma  as India look to take the lead in the series.  However Rahul is too good a T20 player to keep failing and dropping him is not an easy decision. Another option to get Rohit in is by resting Shreyas  Iyer who did well in this series so far or Surya Kumar Yadav , who did not bat on his debut  and play Rahul in the middle order.

Though  any team should go into a T20 game with 6 bowlers , India as of now are going in with 5 bowlers and strengthening their batting in order to go hard at the top as per the desire expressed by the captain  . Hence a change is not likely on the bowling front since all the bowlers have performed in 2nd game .

As for England , Mark Wood’s injury is a bit of a blow as he did make life uncomfortable for India with his raw pace in 1st game . Tom Curran who can bowl good cutters did not perform as per expectations but may have another go.  There is a possibility to play Moeen Ali too .

England further needs to rethink Ben Stokes’ position in the batting order . Stokes is not a good option in the slog overs as was evident in 2nd game . He is a big innings player, good against pace  and thrives on more batting time. Hence like his franchisee Rajasthan Royals , the England thinktank also needs to assess whether lefthanded  Ben Stokes can be used as an opener with right-handed Jason Roy to have the left right combo in the opening slot and push Buttler down the order , who bat at any position.

Thus it will be interesting to see how both teams juggle their squad and arrive at their best possible XI in the all important 3rd match .
