Ishan Kishan has finally arrived in international cricket in explosive style !!
The Jharkhand youngster was threatening to break into the Indian squad since last two IPLs and finally does it on March 14 2021 . India handed him the T20 international debut along with Surya Kumar Yadav as Dhawan and Axar were rested and straightaway what a telling impact Ishant made in his first taste of international cricket !!
Chasing 165 to win , India needed a decent start as Ishan Kishan was given the oppurtunity to open with Rahul . However India were rocked early as Rahul snicked lefthander Sam Curran to Buttler for nought. Ishan was joined by Kohli and soon the runs started to flow towards the middle of powerplay . The Indian captain looked on song , determined to make an impact and started by pulling Archer to square leg boundary to get on his way but the hero was the debutant Kishan as he started unleashing his strokes with great power and timing , cutting and pulling the Curran brothers with disdain as the stadium erupted at the sight of the diminutive debutant lefthander taking on the England fast bowlers. When the spinners came along Kishan swept and lofted them in brutal fashion as India marched rapidly towards the target . After a 94 run partnership with his skipper , largely dominated by the lefthander , Kishan finally was lbw to Rashid going for a reverse flick after having played a dazzling knock of 56 off 32 balls with 5 fours and 4 sixes.
Rishabh Pant continued the momentum in style hitting two towing sixes in his 26 run cameo off 13 balls before being caught in the deep but by then the match was almost in the grasp as Kohli cut loose and played some spectacular pull shots and lofted drives showing his class and intent remaining not out on 73 off 49 balls with 5 fours and 3 sixes. If Kohli gets a good solid start , he generally makes it count towards the end by playing a flurry of shots and hastens the end of the match as he did today helping India to canter home by 7 wickets.
Only Sam Curran saved his reputation amongst England bowlers with 1/22 off 4 overs.
Earlier superb seam bowling with pace off by Indian fast bowlers led by Bhuvneshwar Kumar (1/28) and Shardul Thakur (2/29) restricted England to 164/6 in 29 overs after at one stage they looked like getting 190. Both Bhuvneshwar and Shardul made great use of scrambled seam and slower pace to rattle the strong English middle order in which none of the famed batters could take the game away from India. Only Jason Roy (46 off 35 balls ) managed to get a sizable score and the rest only managed short cameos. Hence a lot of 20s in the English scoreboard . Washington Sundar (2/29) once again showed his utility in this format getting both Roy and Bairstow(20) to catches in the deep and Chahal (1/34) got the crucial wicket of Malan (24) . Morgan (28) and Stokes(24) could not force the pace as England managed only 45 in last 6 overs . It appears that Stokes is under utilised by England in the slog overs . He is a top order player , should be better off opening the batting as he like pace on his shots and Buttler should shift into the middle order.
However it was India’s and man of the match Ishan Kishen’s day as he showed what he is capable of at the top order. India was longing for an explosive opener at the top who can produce fiery starts in the T20 powerplay like England often does and today the prayers of the nation was answered .
England 164/6 in 20 overs ( Roy 46 , Sundar 2/29, Shardul 2/29)
India 166/3 in 17.5 overs ( Kohli 73no , Kishan 56)
