England blew away India by 8 wickets as they made short work of a small target of 125 by winning in 15.3overs .  Jason Roy (49 off 32 balls , 4 4s, 3 6s) scored runs in the powerplay at blistering pace hitting glorious sixes by using his feet to spin,  something that was absent from England batting in the test series. He went after Chahal in powerplay which set the tone for the chase while Buttler played second fiddle with 28 off 24 balls . Dawid Malan (24notout) and Johny Bairstow (26 not out  off 17 balls) ensured that India never made any inroads after the openers were dismissed.  While Chahal and Sundar got a wicket each , none of the Indian bowlers created any impact.  Infact India’s only highlight in England innings was that KL Rahul saving off a six diving backwards at long off and flinging the ball  into play airborne to reduce the stroke off Buttler  to 3 runs .

Earlier the Indian top order in trying to force the pace lost wickets cheaply to get reduced to 20/3 within powerplay . Rahul (1) played on to Archer driving away from his body. Dhawan (4) bowled by a fast delivery from Wood (1/20) who was bowling at an average speed of 147 kph and Kohli (0) continued his poor run by hitting a straight catch to mid off trying to take on Adil Rashid (1/14).

Shreyas Iyer (67 off 48 balls ) played superbly choosing the right balls to hit . He looked in control and was taking India to a fighting total but had small partnerships with Pant (21) and Hardik Pandya (19) both of whom got out at the wrong time after getting themselves in.  The rest of the batting just folded up without any resistance .  Jofra Archer (3/23) , Mark Wood and Adil Rashid kept the Indian strokeplayers under control as India ended on an inadequate score of 124/7  which England chased down without much effort .

Jofra Archer for his bowling was the man of the match .  There will be some criticism now from the media on India’s team composition for the 1st T20 , specially with Rohit Sharma being rested for such an important 1st game of the series.

Brief scores:

India 124/7 ( Shreyas Iyer 67 , Archer 3/23)

England 130/2 ( Roy 49, Buttler 28, Bairstow 26no)
